Switching Gears

When I was young, I wanted to be:

  1. A writer
  2. Mom to 10 children
  3. A musical comedy star
  4. The First Lady (girls couldn't even wear pants til 6th grade in the small Michigan town I lived in, yes, Michigan...freezing cold...we had to wear 'stretch pants' to school then take them off until recess time)
  5. Mrs. Donny Osmond
  6. Mrs. David Cassidy
  7. Mrs...well you get the idea....
  8. An environmentalist (I  had no idea that's what it was called...I just wrote letters protesting the use of colored dyes in toilet paper and tissues and lettered on wooden medallions 'Save the Seals')
  9. Thin
  10. Happy

Are you what you want to be?

  1. I wanted to be an archelogist! I dreamed of being another "Charles Leekey." Being a teacher of English to International Students isn't far off. Is it? :)

I never even thought about my own family...I just knew if would somehow all fall into place...I guess it did.

I too wanted to be "Mrs. Donny Osmond" and "Mrs. David Cassidy." What about Bobby Sherman? So dreamy!

I dreamed of traveling the world and living somewhere far, far away from San Diego. Now I would give anything to go back to the beach, sun and beauty of it all.

    Your posts are so fun!

  2. I wanted to be a journalist. I wanted to travel around and tell people's stories. It seemed like it would be so much fun. It is fun. Too bad the job market is markedly not fun. Oh well, I'll still get to tell stories.

I wanted to get married. I wanted to be a wife and have kids and a dog. I'm getting there, give me a few years and expect the dog before the kids.

I wanted to save the world. Recycling is good, littering is bad. I think I do my part.

I think I still have some growing up to do, but at least I had a Pam in my life to push me (kicking and screaming) at least part of the way.

You gave me some of the best advice and I still think of it. You looked me in the eye and told me to put on my big girl panties. I did and it got me pretty far. Early graduation didn't work out so well, but there is no going back now. Thanks for everything, Pam. I miss you so much.

  3. Anthropologist, Archeologist--correct spelling! Sorry and it's Louis and Mary Leakey...I once had my picture taken with them at the Musuem of Man in Balboa Park in San Diego. I had no clue who they were then...

  4. I wanted to be a scientist, a teacher, a singer, an actress, a wife and a mom -- in no particular order. I always had a flair for writing. Didn't consider it until I saw all the math in my high school chemistry class. If I had been encouraged more, I might've sang and acted in school productions. I wish I had. Well, now I get to do it "right" with my daughter. Last I heard, she wants to be a veterinarian -- and also a dancer and a professional cheerleader. (I gotta tell her they don't make very much at all. Great story by Jeanne Marie Laskas about that.)

  5. When I was really little, I wanted to be a mommy. Later, I thought it would be cool to join the circus, and I even got a unicycle and learned to ride it.

From about age 11 to 25 or so, I was just totally confused and didn't have much of a clue as to what I wanted to do with my life.

Then, I remembered about wanting to be a mom, and that one came true.

I am also a writer, but that just kind of happened.

And actually Bobby Sherman was my first love....;-)
Well, after Tommy Ferguson, a little red headed boy in St. Clair Shores Michigan. I was about 3...

My mom wanted to be an archaeologist too (in addition to a mom, which was number one)..but she doesn't like snakes or the sun....

    Heather you made me cry!

Thanks again for sharing everyone....(a professional cheerleader?!)
